Question by A.: Average cost to have a machine shop clean, bore, balance, prep, etc, an engine?
It has been a few years since I had a shop prep an engine for me and I totally forgot what the cost was.
I will be bringing in a Chrysler 440 big block. I will need to standard full service: cleaning, boring, balancing of the rotating assembly, cam bearing install, etc.
What is a ballpark estimate for this work?
Thanks!

Pro job and blueprinting engine, balance, etc. Are you getting heads redone and new gears etc.If crank need grinding and new cam shaft. Estimate anywhere from $ 3,000.00 up to $ 5,000.00 Magnaflux heads and block too.May have to replace push rods rocker arms etc. There’s more than meets the eye in an engine overhaul. Of course you could price a manufactured long block.
