Question by lanamae: Questions about taking written drivers test and getting permit?
I just turned 18 this month and have waited to get my license for a very long time because my mom wouldn’t let me take drivers training at 15 but now I can finally get it! I don’t know exactly how to go about doing that though. So I was wondering, do I just walk into the sec of state or something and tell them I want to take my written test? Or do I need to make an appointment? Also, is there some sort of study guide they will give me before taking the test? Oh, and one more question, since I am 18, when I do get my permit, am I only aloud to drive with a parent or guardian of a certain age Or can it be with anyone with a license? I live in Michigan.

I don’t think you are required to take driver’s ed, but i would highly recommend it. You will become a more confident driver with a professional teacher in the passenger seat with a brake pedal. Trust me. Also, depending on what driver’s school you go to, they might just give you the test there. I took my driver’s ed at Sears Driving School, and I took the multiple choice at the end of the class. I got a certificate saying that I passed, and then took my social security card, my birth certificate, and proof of residency into the secretary of state, no appointment needed. They make you fill out info, and then take a vision test. I think you have to have someone with you over 21.
